Melvin G.E.N.E Cotton III, co- owner of Empowered Records and Gospel Rap artist was born June 16, 1987 in Montgomery, Alabama. As a child he was always interested in various forms of entertainment such as music, sports, etc. At the age of eleven he accepted Jesus Christ and began walking in his calling. Melvin also known as G.E.N.E (God’s Evangelist Neutralizing the Enemy) became heavily involved with the youth ministry at his church and he connected with a group of young men (Christian In Praise C.I.P); were he was introduced to gospel rap. In 2007 he joined “Empowered Records” (formally known as Pure Vision Ministries & Music); and soon began producing & coordinating live events, directing video productions, managing artists and scouting new talent; all the while continuing to spread the gospel to world through music. He has a heart for the youth. Being young and saved isn’t very popular; and his vision is to provide a platform for teens & young- adults were they can come be themselves, have good Christian fun and know that it’s cool to be saved living for the Lord. In 2013 G.E.N.E released a mixtape entitled "Christ the King", his slogan & a collection of ten songs discussing the Royal status GOD has called us to live & uphold based on the scripture 1 Peter 2:9 in the Bible. He said; when you hear me say Christ The King it means, Jesus Christ is King and Lord of every aspect of my life; so whether good or bad He has and always will work every situation out for my good and for His Glory. Later that year, G.E.N.E partnered with his long time label mate Tekulve in the re-launching of their label "Empowered Records" with the mission of "Empowering the World with the Word through music". (Acts 1:8) G.E.N.E attends Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Oviedo, FL; where he services as a Youth Leader in Antioch’s Youth Ministry teaching middle & high school Wednesday night bible study and assisting in the coordination of youth events to engage and spread the message of Jesus Christ to today’s youth.
